The Brief
DNATA being one of the leading Global freight handling companies was looking to include as part of their new air freight handling facility at Manchester Airport temperature-controlled transit pods. The pods would be a part of a fully automated air cargo system supplied by AMOVA which could handle more than 150,000 tons of air cargo annually. Each of the temperature-controlled rooms (Pods) needs to be able to achieve a temperature set point of between +2°C & + 25°C depending on the product requirements.
Our Solution
DD Cooling`s solution was to build two adjoining rooms within the automated storage racking system to provide separate temperature-controlled areas. Each room would have two levels to store freight awaiting transfer. The rooms were constructed from 125mm food-safe PIR panels, with individual automatic doors working from the automated freight handling unit to load & unload the cargo. Dimensions for each room: 9200mm high, 3800mm wide, 7100mm long.
We designed each room with separate temperature controls using twin outdoor J&E Hall units, and twin dual discharge evaporators with heater banks. To assist with air circulation in each room we installed de-stratification fans to ensure air circulation to the lower area of the room.
